May Favourites

When I saw this post on my little calendar for upcoming blog posts I had a mini heart attack. Surely I couldn't have loved enough products since last month?! Well it turns out I have and I'm going to share them with you.

I've owned this Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in the colour Tutti Fruitti for roughly a year and a half now and I don't think I've worn it once. I never thought the orange colour suited my skin tone but since I'm making a real effort to give all of my lip products a good use I pulled this one out and gave it a go. I really love the formula of these lip butters, I've raved about them many times before. I've actually gotten quite into this colour as I've had a bit of an obsession with the colour orange lately. It's a summery shade but I'm making it worse in the cold autumn weather.

I've got a review of this nail polish coming up soon so I'm not going to harp on. This is the Formula X For Sephora Nail Polish in Reckless, the colour is gorgeous and the formula is amazing. Done.

I've already done a full review on this Pixi Natural Brow Duo HERE and I've been using it on the daily all month.

I've gone without dry shampoo for months now because I kept forgetting to pick some more up. Now I've got this Batiste Dry Shampoo for Medium and Brunette Hair I'm never going to let myself run out again. I love how good it makes my second (or even third) day hair feel when I just can't be bothered washing/drying/styling it. Plus it has a hint of brown colour so I don't have to worry it's making me look like I'm going grey.

This is definately the most random of my favourites this month but I've had two spiffing games of Pictionary this month. I'd only ever played it a couple of times before because my family has the really old first edition version and it's shoved up the top of a wardrobe out of the way. Usually I'm more of a monopoly girl myself. One time my friend and I played a makeshift version with a whiteboard but the second time was full on. It's so much fun to play with friends and things can get slightly aggressive...

This is by far my favourite favourite of the month. I'm obsessed. I've been wanting a largeish handbag for months now but I never found the perfect one in my price range. I don't have the money to buy Chanel or Prada bags so I have to really hunt down the best one. This bag from Colette was only $54 and it's perfect. I've been taking it everywhere with me, even when it's unnecessary.

Looks like I'll have to do a spot of shopping to find some things to love this month. It's tough, but I will accept the challenge.

Lots of Love,

Did Oxygen Wow?

Please, no need to applaud for the witty title. I know I'm hilarious. Before I launch into my full review of Benefit's Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening Sunscreen Makeup (what a mouthful!), I need to explain how I came to own this foundation. We were in Sephora on our last day in New York and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of the options. I eventually decided that I should buy a foundation as I am lacking a really good quality foundation in my stash. The girl in the store offered to use her fancy-schmancy foundation matching machine to find my perfect one. It was at this point that I totally forgot what I was actually shopping for and blindly agreed to her answers for the questions. I was looking for something with medium coverage that could be built up or sheered out, preferably with no (or little) SPF because it would be for going out. Instead I ended up with SUNSCREEN makeup...

I'm not blaming the girl for this, I never actually articulated what I was looking to purchase. I became so overwhelmed with the whole process that any clarity I may have had was totally lost. It was only when we left the store that I realised this was nothing like the Nars Sheer Glow I was eyeing. Goddamnit.

Now onto the actual review of the product, sorry for the rambling anecdote. I don't really enjoy this foundation, especially at night. It is uncomfortable on my skin for about the first half an hour after application, eventually it does sink in and feel okay to the touch but I think half an hour is a bit too long to have to wait. The packaging had sunscreen-like instructions that said it was to be reapplied every two hours and that made me nervous. After wearing it for a few hours I used a makeup wipe to remove my foundation and looked at the staying power, it wasn't great. This is a really light foundation that doesn't give much coverage, but that can be expected from the name I suppose.

Overall this foundation does not do what I bought it for. It is not going to be any good for special occasions. I think this one will be relegated to camping trips and beach days, if that. Sorry Oxygen, but you didn't wow.

What I Wore: Little Black Dress

If you read THIS post from last Wednesday you will know that I attended a Bar Mitzvah the other week. The party in the evening was smashing (you can tell I'm a real party animal by my use of the word smashing) and easily the fanciest one I've ever been to. Think swanky city hotel ballroom. I went with a simple LBD, the Duchess Satin Bow Back Prom Dress from Topshop. I actually found this dress at The Grove in LA but they didn't have it in my size, fortunately we found it in another Topshop so I could buy it. It's actually a size too small for me so I can't really breathe in it but fashion before pain right? I then wore the same ASOS coat that I wore during the day (I also brought the same clutch, so it is not pictured).

I went a bit heavier with the makeup for the evening party. I took inspiration from THIS Pixiwoo video and decided to do a subtle silver smoky eye. That was really different for me because I've never worn a look like this before. I'm sorry that some of the products are the same from the morning but it was what I was feeling that day.

Foundation: Rimmel Match Perfection

Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent

Bronzer: Revlon Matte Powder Blush in Barely Blush (btw: this sucks but I'm being honest with what I used)

Eyeshadow Base: Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige

All over the lid: Naked 2 Palette shadow Verve

In the crease: Naked 2 Palette shadow Pistol

Browbone and Inner Corner: Naked 2 Palette shadow Foxy

Eyeliner: Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner

Waterline: Designer Brands Kohl Eye Pencil in Black

Mascara: Covergirl Clump Crusher and Revlon Grow Luscious

Lipstick: Milani Lipstick in Nude Creme

Lipgloss: Maybelline Color Elixr in Petal Plush (these are now available in Australia and I nearly screamed when I saw... I'm not at all dramatic)

Perfume: Miss Dior

I bought this necklace from Diva after admiring it for months and then freaking out when I thought it was gone, it's not available anymore but here's the very similar Black and Gold Tone Plate Fan Necklace. My shoes are from Novo and I got them for Christmas from my Nan (thanks Nan!) but they're not available anymore.

Here you can see the back of my dress. Its so pretty.
And we'll end this on my bored selfie face!

My Winter Essentials

I know what you're thinking. 'But Shannon, it's coming into summer!' Well not here it isn't. Down in the summer hemisphere it is winter, or almost winter anyway. In saying that it is still 20 degrees everyday but I'm sure it will get cold soon. I really love winter (when it's not raining) because I find clothes to be so much easier to wear and you can snuggle up in a onesie. I'm going to tell you some of the things I always look forward to pulling off the shelf when winter rolls around.

DARKER LIP COLOURS: I'm not always terribly adventurous when it comes to lipsticks but this winter I'm going to make a concerted effort to use some more out there colours. A girl can't stay in her nude lipgloss safe zone forever. I really love this Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in the colour Lovesick and the really dark purple Revlon Colorstay Matte Balm in Shameless. The pink one is a dark pink but it is still very wearable, this will work as baby steps into the outageously dark purple. I'm not sure where I will wear the purple but it will be worn this winter at least one, I promise (does wearing a product once justify buying it? Probably not.).

BODY BUTTERS: I have such dry legs that they need a body butter all year round. During summer this just can't happen because my legs get all hot and sweaty, then the body butter gets all sticky and everything feels a little gross. During winter, on the other hand, body butters are my bestie. I chuck a heap of it on at night and then put on my pyjama pants and never think about it again. At the moment I'm using The Body Shop Body Butter in Brazil Nut. It hasn't quite taken over from the coconut scent as my favourite, but it's still pretty good.

BEANIES: Last winter I began to wear beanies. This was a big thing for me because before that I was strictly a no hat girl. This year I can't wait to break 'em out. They keep you warm, they hide your greasy roots, they make you look slightly bald if you don't wear them in the right way. What more could you want? These particular ones are from Sportsgirl from last year so they're no longer available.

AWESOME JACKETS: I love jackets. Whether they're cool slouchy army style ones to make you feel like Lindsay from Freaks and Geeks or tailored trench coats to make you look like Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, jackets are the best. This coat is a newish purchase the Topshop Hooded Check Lined Jacket and I love it because it is so casual and comfy. I can throw a jacket on top of any outfit to bring it to a whole new level.

CHAI TEA: This stuff is so amazingly delicious, I can't even think of anything more to say.

HUGE MUGS: If I'm going to get off my warm comfy bed to make tea, I'm going to want a lot of it. This Tweety Bird mug from will hold about half a litre of the warm drink of your choice. I, in fact, have three of these mugs on rotation because I love them so much.

What are your winter essentials? And if you're in the sunnier part of the world, spare a thought for us people down south.

Lots of Love,

Shannon

My New Product for Faking the Brows

While I was shopping on ASOS recently I couldn't help but stop by the beauty page. I've been looking for a new option for my brows instead of stealing my Mum's old Estee Lauder eyebrow pencil, and I stumbled across this Pixi Natural Brow Duo in Medium Brown. Now it's time to share my deepest darkest secret, I have invisible eyebrows. My eyebrow hairs are so increadibly blonde that they've passed that point and moved straight into translucent. Even with tinted eyebrows they're not much chop. My problem with drawing my eyebrows in has always been that it is too dramatic of a difference, going from no eyebrows to a strong eyebrow game is a big jump. This set is perfect for me because it looks super natural but still fills them in and gives them some colour.

I start by filling in my brows with the pencil end. This takes some time because the pencil does not give off colour very easily so you have to build it up (I had to press really hard to get the swatch as dark as it is). This is a good thing for me as it decreases my risk of majorly stuffing it up. I finish them off by going over with the tinted brow gel. I love the teeny tiny brush because it's so adorable, but the actual gel itself is nothing to write home about. I couldn't even tell it was tinted until I put it onto the white paper, even on my hand it appeared clear. I was hoping this would be Benefit Gimme Brow-esque but it doesn't really do terribly much. I continue to use it because I think it helps my brows stay in place longer and it doesn't leave them crunchy. Basically I wish it wasn't sold as 'tinted' because the tint does nothing.

This is a really good, and very affordable, brow duo. I'm sure there are better products on the market but if you are new to the whole filling in your eyebrows thing this could be good to try. It also comes in a darker shade for those more gifted in the eyebrow department than myself.

Lots of Love,

Shannon

What I Wore: Daytime Formal

I went to a Bar Mitzvah on the weekend (this was a first for me, not being Jewish it is not a common invitation) and I thought I would write a blog version of a get ready with me. For the part during the day I wore this All About Eve Rings Tee Dress. I needed to have my shoulders covered, as that is something the Jewish religion calls for, and that made dresses considerably harder to find. I actually bought a dress online but I ended up returning it because it was not great quality. I ended up finding this one and loving it because it is really different from everything I've ever owned. I teamed this with my go to ASOS Trench Coat (The exact one is no longer available so I found an incredibly similar ASOS Biker Skater Mac)

Foundation: Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer with a little bit of Bourjois Happy Light Concealer on large blemishes.

Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent

Blush: Milai Baked Blush in Dolce Pink

Highlight: Benefit Girl Meets Pearl

Brows: Pixi Natural Brow Duo in Medium Brown

Eyeshadow Base: Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige

Eyeshadow Crease: Nooner from Naked 3 Palette

Eyeshadow Outer Corner: Buzz from Naked 3 Palette

Brow Highlight and Inner Corner: Strange from Naked 3 Palette

Eyeliner: Sephora Contour Eye Pencil in Tiramisu

Mascara: Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara and Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara

Lipstick: Milani Lipstick in Fruit Punch

Perfume: GAP Bright

I kept the accessories simple with a black clutch from Colette, silver chain necklace from Diva and a pair of black heels from Betts. All of which are old and no longer stocked, sorry. I'm also sorry that I don't have any good photos of my complete outfit, unfortunately I didn't get any good ones because I didn't have my SLR on hand and my iPhone ones were crazy backlit. As the best consolation here's a selfie I took in the car:

...at least you can see how I did my hair? You're welcome. My night time look will be up next Wednesday and I actually have photos of that look I promise.

Steal Her Street Style: Kendall Jenner

Source

Let's be real here, we all kind of want to be Kendall Jenner. Super model body, legs for days, money for days and she's probably kissed Harry Styles. What more can you ask for? While becoming her physically is a challenge scientists will have to take on, we will have to settle with stealing her style. Fortunately for us, she has a really cool simple style that is easy to recreate. The best thing about most of her outfits is that you can mostly use pieces from your own wardrobe. In the look above she is wearing a simple white t-shirt that most of us already own, black pants (I would be inclined to wear either my black skinnys or my Zara leggings to get the zip effect) and black boots. Easy! The hardest part about recreating this look was the vest, so I gave you some of my suggestions instead.

Jeans: New Look Supersoft Superskinny Jean

T-Shirt: Monki Boyfriend Tee White

Vest: Kendall's actual vest is Topshop and was only available in stores. I couldn't find anything like it online (I know it kind of makes this outfit) so here's what I would wear: Vero Moda Fenda Printed Waistcoat If you know of anything that is like Kendall's waistcoat, tell me in the comments below.

Handbag: Stitched Duffel Handbag

Hat: ASOS Felt Fedora Hat

Boots: Underground Beatle Chelsea Boots OR ASOS EINSTEIN Leather Ankle Boots

Remember, if you don't have a vest just like Kendall's. Improvise! Throw on a cool kimono or a flannel. If I'm going for a Kardashian inspired look, I have to wear a flannel.

Lots of Love,

Shannon

P.S If you love Kendall's style as much as I do check out THIS Tumblr page, it's pretty awesome and helpful.

A Trio of Concealers

I don't know what's happening with my lighting in these pictures...everything's so blue! These concealers are actually in really light shades, they've just come out really dark. I included them still to show you the consistency.
Recently, I have been on a mission to find the perfect concealer. I am starting with the drug store but I know that buying a more expensive one is inevitable (hello Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, I'm looking at you!). For the moment I have found one that is for filling my needs, so I thought it would be a good time to talk about the pros and cons of the three most recent concealers.

L'Oreal True Match Concealer in the shade Fair/Light was purchased on a whim during one of my CVS raids and unfortunately it disappointed me straight away. Therefore I shall start with the cons.

Cons: It is not as blendable as the packaging would suggest (it says it is 'super blendable) and if you apply too much it can turn into little balls as you are trying to blend. I find that it settles into pores and becomes quite 'scaly', for lack of a better word, throughout the day. I like to apply concealer pretty much over the entirety of my rouldoph nose and it seperates really quickly, drawing even more attention to the monstrocity on the middle of my face.

Pros: I love the packaging, it is so easy to apply and you don't have to think about it. What I do use this for is drawing nice straight lines to fix up any eyeshadow fall out. If things are starting to get a little messy, I draw a straight line from underneath my eye much like a eyeliner wing would go, and it clears everything up with little need for blending. Thankfully I have found a use for this because I hate things going to waste!

Bourjois Happy Light Concealer in 21 Ivory (HERE) is the first of these concealers I bought and I stuck with it for a little while before broadening my horizons.

Pros: The packaging is really fun to play with and it has a mirror in the top, which is always handy. It has a really thick texture so it is pretty full coverage, not the best I've ever seen, but it's good. Basically, I didn't hate it.

Cons: Much like the L'Oriel one, this just doesn't sit well on my skin. It separates quite quickly and gets that scaly look. I find that if I don't spend a really long time blending it in it can be very obvious on the skin. This is a big no no because I want people to think I'm naturally flawless. Though I find the packaging quite dinky, the fact that you need to use a brush with it is a bit too much of a hastle for me on a daily basis. I still do use this if I have a big ol' pimple because of the coverage.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15 Fair (HERE) is my new favourite and I'm already rather scared of running out, this shade was not easy to track down.

Pros: It melts into the skin so that you don't know it's there and at no point throughout the day does it get all scaly and gross. It works really well for both under the eyes and on blemishes and can be mixed with a highlighter/highlighting under eye concealer to get a more luminous look. It's not completely matte, which adds to the natural look it gives.

Cons: If you're not into concealers that you apply with a wand because of the bacteria and stuff, this may not be the one for you (though you could always just put in onto the back of your hand and use something else, I've done that). It doesn't stick around forever, I find that it wares off throughout the day. I don't mind this because it wears off in a natural way. It slowly disappears without leaving the tell tale signs of worn off makeup, the weird patches and oxidised colour.

If I were going to recommend and of these to you, I think it is obvious which one I would say. I have found a use for all of these concealers, you just have to be a little creative. What is your favourite concealer? I'm always on the lookout for something that can do an even better job.

Shannon

Body Shop Shea Body Scrub Review

If I don't take good care of my legs they can get incredibly dry. Since my legs are already really pale I try to limit dryness as much as possible. I do this by moisturising in the morning with a lighter body lotion and then at night with a heavy body butter. Once a week I like to exfoliate my legs to get rid of any excess skin and any grossness (I find that I feel so clean after exfoliating).

The Body Shop Shea Body Scrub (HERE) is the one I'm currently using and I really like it. It does everything I expect a scrub to do. It has a grainy texture that comes from the sugar in the scrub so it is very abrasive and works all of the dead skin away. Though I'm enjoying using this I don't know if it's worth the price as there are cheaper similar ones being sold in the pharmacy and I have been known to make my own sugar scrubs. If you're after something that's moisturising or soft on this skin this is not your ticket, but if you want a really good scrub it's a nice one. Plus it smells delicious.

Primping With The Stars Review

I thought this little set would be a good little introduction to the brand that is Benefit. I've given some of the products more of a test than others, but I feel as though I've got a good gage of what I like and what I don't. This is going to be quick-fire, just a few sentences per product, so get ready! (BUY IT HERE)

Stay Don't Stray Eyeshadow and Concealer Primer: This is teeny tiny and works really well. It is ever so slightly tinted, so it makes a nice even base for eyeshadows. They stick make eyeshadows stick around nicely, but I don't see the point of using it for concealer when I can just use my normal face primer. Especially since it's so small.

Some Kind of Gorgeous Foundation: This came in the colour medium, which is totally reasonable, and it is WAY too dark for me. I gave this a quick test on my hand and it seems a little oily but I can't really give you my opinion on this one, sorry.

Benetint Cheek Tint: This is a really cool product because it is really different from your traditional blush. I think the colour is a really nice natural one (when on the skin, not so much in the bottle) and it isn't too pigmented so it's not as easy to stuff up. I swipe it onto my face with the cute little brush and then blend it out with my fingers over my cheeks. The only problem is that it is a stain so if you don't blend fast enough you can end up with a stripe on your face, been there done that.

The PoreFessional: I really love this because it does exactly what it says it will. It blurs pores and gives a really great velvety finish on the skin. It feels so incredibly cool when it is on my skin. And the staying power is quality.

Girl Meets Pearl Face Illuminator: This has a really nice sheen to it that is not too glittery so it can be used as a highlighter or can be mixed into foundation. I prefer this as a highlighter on the tops of my cheek bones and am pretty impressed with how it works.

They're Real Mascara: I quite like this mascara, but it hasn't quite toppled my favourite combination. I like a good combination of separation, length and volume and this does a good job at all of them. I think there are mascaras that are just as good and a lot cheaper, so I won't be rushing out to purchase this one. I'm not complaining though and I will definitely use this up especially since it's so cute and tiny!

Wet 'n' Wild Trio Review

These swatches didn't really come out as well as I would have hoped, sometimes the camera just changes things!
This palette is such incredible for quality for it's crazy low price. I heard people talking about how nice the Wet 'n' Wild palettes are, especially this Walking on Eggshells one (HERE). It comes with three simple colour perfectly suited for daily wear. Though there's only three colours, there's actually a lot of options for what you can do with it. The brow bone colour also does well as an all over the lid colour, which makes it even more versatile. The shadows are nice and buttery so there is no crazy fall out, even without a primer (though a eyeshadow primer or cream shadow base will always help the longevity). If you're on the market for some nude shadows but you don't want to splash out, I highly suggest this little palette.

Lots of Love,

Shannon

Milani Lipsticks Review

I picked up these two Milani Lipsticks in Fruit Punch and Nude Creme (HERE) while I was in New York and thought I would share a quick little review with you. The first thing I noticed about these lipsticks was the pretty gold packaging (that's REALLY reflective and finger print-y, sorry about that), then I noticed the really good shade selection. I ended up going with a simple pinky nude and a slightly brighter pink, two very wearable shades. These smell so delicious and fruity I have to resist eating them every time I open the top, the smell probably wont be for everyone as it is rather strong but I really like it.

As for how they wear, I wasn't sure it first because due to the cold weather in New York my lips were quite gross and chapped. Since I've gotten home and gotten my lips under control, I can see just how lovely these are. They're not the most moisturising thing ever and they don't work well on dry lips, patching up and emphasising the peeling skin, but I don't expect all lipsticks to work as balms as well. If you take these simply as lipsticks you will get on well with them. They are nicely pigmented so they can be worn full on or sheered out. These two beauties have quickly become a handbag staple of mine!

Beauty Scenario Tag

I know I'm looking fairly nuts here, forgive me for scaring the children.
Today I felt like keeping it fairly simple on LOLS (Get it? Its Lots of Love Shannon abbreviated, god I'm funny) and answering some tag questions for you all. I wasn't actually tagged to do it, but I figure someone out there must have tagged anyone who wanted to do it. It's a fun beauty related tag made up by Lily Pebbles a blogger and Youtuber of whom I'm an avid fan (Check her out HERE or HERE) and I figured I would give it a go!

1. You have to get rid of all your foundations and you can only keep one high end and one drugstore, which do you keep?

As of yet I have not found a high end foundation worthy of keeping, so I would probably stick with my drugstore options. I would not be able to part with my Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream, so that'd be my winner but if it had to be a FOUDATION I would keep my Rimmel Match Perfection. Hopefully I will be able to find a really special high end foundation soon...I'm thinking the Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua?

2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?

Ignore it completely. I'm non-confrontational at the best of times so there would be no way I would tell her. If it were a friend I would totally tell them because I would expect them to tell me. With an interviewer, on the other hand, I would avoid the topic all together.

3. You're not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which lipstick do you put on to make yourself feel beautiful?

Right now it would probably be my Milani Lipstick in Fruit Punch. It's a really pretty pink that's slightly brighter than my natural lip colour but not crazy bright. It can really lit up an outfit and make everything look happier.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?

Since I'm still in my teenage years, I'm probably making regretable hair and makeup decisions as we speak. I still have some choices in the past that I would like to change. It wasn't all that long ago that the only beauty products I would use were glitter and lashings of lipgloss, I would prefer to have never done that all together. I would also tell myself not to cut a fringe right before starting high school, that was really bad.

5. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut, but they hear wrong and give you a pixi cut. Do you a) Smile, say thank you, leave and call your mum hysterical b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward or c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund.

This is a toss up between a and b. I would much prefer to do a but I think I wouldn't be able to avoid crying hysterically and letting things get awkward. I'm an emotional person sometimes.

6. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which 'do it all' palette do you pack in your makeup bag?

I would probably take something really simple like my Wet 'n' Wild Walking on Eggshells trio because it's no fuss. If I were to spend a weekend with the girls I wouldn't want to spend ages on my makeup, I would want something to slap on and go.

7. Your house has been robbed, don't worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What's the product you really hope is safe?

Definitely my Naked Palettes, any and all of them. They're so hard (and expencive) to get in Australia that I would be crushed if someone stole them. Thankfully, I would think that it is rare for house robbers to steal makeup.

8. Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven't noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs

As I said earlier, I'm increadibly non-confrontational so I would totally do a). There's no way I would ruin their things just because they ruined mine and I don't think I would have the guts to ask them to repurchase it anyway. Depending on what it is, I may be happy to pick up something new anyway.

That was fun! I really love tags because you can see heaps of different people's takes on the questions. If you've done the beauty scenario tag make sure you send me the link so I can check out your answers.

Lots of Love,

Shannon
